We have had a wonderful experience at Destination Smile with Dr. Fridgen. The facility is just perfect for kids and all the staff members are very friendly. This was our daughter’s 3rd visit. She has been going since she had first 2 teeth and now has almost entire set of milk teeth. She loves going there and this time she wanted to visit there very next day as well since she loves it there. It’s very clean, multiple stations so wait is never very long and the doctor and staff are very knowledgeable. Love it there and will highly recommend it.
Summer is one of the best times of year for kids. School is out, adventures are waiting, and there is so much to look forward to. Knowing how to handle dental emergencies in San Jose, CA will help your family stay safe and keep those bright smiles going all season long.
Kids are more active during the summer months. They ride bikes, play sports, swim, and spend hours running around outside. More movement means a higher chance of bumps, falls, and accidents that can affect their teeth.

Common Dental Emergencies to Know
Summer fun can take an unexpected turn in an instant. It helps to know which dental problems call for urgent care. Some of the most common issues parents deal with include:
- A tooth that gets knocked completely out
- A tooth that chips, cracks, or breaks
- A tooth that shifts out of its normal position
- A toothache that won’t go away or a gum that swells up
- A filling or crown that falls out
- A damaged dental appliance
What to Do Right Away
Staying calm and moving fast is the best thing a parent can do in a dental emergency. If a permanent tooth comes all the way out, handle it by the chewing surface and keep your fingers away from the root. Tuck it into a small cup of milk and get to a dental office without delay.
A chipped or broken tooth calls for quick thinking, too. Have your child rinse with warm water and press a cold cloth gently against the outside of the cheek. Collect any broken pieces you can find and bring them with you to the appointment.
Simple Ways to Prevent Injuries
A little preparation can go a long way toward protecting your child’s smile this summer. Try these helpful tips before the season gets into full swing:
- Have your child wear a mouthguard during contact sports
- Make sure helmets and protective gear fit the right way
- Discourage chewing on ice, hard candy, or other hard objects
- Keep up with regular checkups at your child’s dental office
Mouthguards are one of the most effective tools for preventing dental emergencies in San Jose during active summer play.
Stay Calm & Respond Fast
Dental emergencies can feel scary, but staying calm is the best first step you can take. Acting quickly gives a tooth the best shot at a full recovery. A caring pediatric dental team will know exactly what to do and can take a lot of the stress off your shoulders.
Every family benefits from having a simple emergency plan ready before an accident ever happens. Save your dentist’s number in your phone and keep a small kit at home with gauze and a clean container.
Parents who know what to expect are in a much better spot to protect their kids. A little knowledge can go a long way when every second counts. Being ready for dental emergencies in San Jose means one unexpected moment won’t put a stop to a great summer.
